Hotel on Rivington - NYC`s new address

A new hotel opened in New York - The Hotel on Rivington. The place has been entirely renovated and has an amazing 360 degree view over Manhatten and NYC in general.
Many different world famous designer got together and made this place really special. On top there is a duplex penthouse with a view over the whole city. The design is modern, but quite simplistic over all - just great.
If you cannot afford to stay in it, just go have a look and maybe a drink in there really nice bar.

In Tokyo now the 100% Chocolate Cafer opened. The design of the place is really nice and unique.
As the name already says, all they sell is chocolate. This goes from hot chocolate. over chocolate bars to chocolate cakes. The stuff all looks really delicious. In Japan is has already become very popular, also because to them it is a bit european and therefore stylish.
So, if you are in Tokyo any time soon, drop by.

What you see here is the Goldeneye resort. It was one of the favorite places of Ian Flemming. He actually wrote most James Bond stories here, in the villy that one can see on the picture.
Its a beautiful private Island with long white beaches.
So,if you want to get the real James Bond feeling, you must come here.

Cap Cana is a new resort being developed in the Dominican Republic that is a golfer`s paradise. The development will have 3 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses with plenty of waterview holes. The development also includes the Caribbean`s largest inland marina, which will be big enough to park larger yachts. The resort will feature hotels, a casino and residences which are already being sold. Prices for golf condos start around $325,000.

All sorts of celebrities are member there, like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The best thing about these guys is though the rating. For any of there hotels they have real time customer satisfaction ratings. On top of that they choose every once in a while a top 10 list with the best hotels in terms of atmosphere, style, design, service, etc according to the customer ratings. What you see here is a Dynamap by the NYC Company Urban Mapping. The Dynamap consists of different layers. Layers can be the subway, cultural spots, hotels, etc. Depending from which angle you look at the map, you see different layers.
A map like this one is very useful in cities like NYC.

Le Meurice is one of the most outstanding hotels in Paris. It belongs to the Dorchester Group and is also member of the Leading Hotels of the World. But there are still some other hotels in Paris who are that. So what makes the Meurice special?

These guys are just very innovative, eventhough very classic at the same time. Women had always a problem keeping an eye on the handbags in resturants. This problem is solved. Le Meurice now put a little Hermès chair next to every Lady on a table. Like that there is a clear spot for the handbag (mainly the Kelly Bag) and it looks great at the same time.
This idea has style and is practical. What else do you want? But one has to have a nice handbag!!!

Emirates Palace - the new standard in luxury!!!

The Emirates Palace Hotel sets new standards in luxury. It is a 5* Hotel outside of Abu Dhabi. It has 302 rooms and 92 suits,2 pool escapes, 2 spas, 20 food and beverage outlets. The restaurants will have italian, arabic, iranian and other international food types.
The conference center is more advanced than any other in the arabic region.
Shop miles, 2000 people of staff, etc. It just gets more and more amazing.
It will open in 2005, so lets wait for the first reviews. The Hotel will be managed by Kempinsky.

This past weekend I visited Lyon (France) for the first time. I totally underestimated that place.
Not only is the city historically amazing. One has got one beautiful old building after the other, beautiful fountains.
In the older part of the city their is a great amount of nice little restaurants. The prices are very good. Little lunch menues start at 10 Euros.
Shopping in Lyon is also great. All major brands (Hermes, Cartier, Armani, etc) are represented with flagship stores. On top of that there is also a good amount of mixed stores with newer brands like Bikkembergs, Y3 and others. Faconnable has a huge flagship store over two flores.
Therefore I can only say, go to Lyon and enjoy great food and wonderful shopping in a beautiful historical city.

Le Baroque has been around forever in Geneva. I think already our grandparents danced quite some nights away.
In the mean time Le Baroque has evolved into a Restaurant, Bar, Lounge and also Club. Finally last year it has also been renovated and modernised, which it also needed.
Now one can find a find a rather good restaurant with mediterranean cuisine, a nice Bar and pre-club lounge. Afterwards one can go downstairs into the club, where house and some r&b make a great ambiance and great parties.

Senso is a modern italian restaurant in the heart of Geneva. The food is light and the ambience is also in a very modern, simple italian style. Brown colors dominate the surrounding.
There is not only a restaurant, but also a very nice bar for a coffee in the afternoon or even some drinks at night. Senso is famous for its afterwork parties on Tuesdays.
Check it out and feel like in one of the majot metropoles of the world.

Harrow - Churchill and Harry Potter went here (not together though!!!)

Harrow is together with Eton probably the best known upperclass boarding school in the UK.
Not only are all the buildings really amazingly beautiful, but the list of celebrities, which went through this school does also not end. Everybody from Churchill to King Hussein went to school here. One famous event every year is the cricket match between Eton and Harrow.
For all you Harry Potter fans out there it might be interesting to know, that it was here in Harrow in the Fourth Form Room where Harry encounteres the Stone of the Wise.
When visiting London it is definitely worth dropping by this place.

The Umu is the new number one address of Japanese restaurants in London. It has a Michelin Star.
The food is creative and by far the highest quality of food one can find. The dishes are very different but at the same time exciting.
Prices are of course also very high - for 2 people one can easily spend 200 pounds.

Especially you tall people out there will apreciate this. Before booking the flight you have a look at SeatGuru und check for the seats with the most space and then reserve your ticket.

Les Fermes de Marie - Megeve, France

Les Fermes de Marie is probably one of the most unique mountain hotels in the world. It is situated not far from the center of Megeve, a beautiful small ski resort in the french alps. The hotel is made up of several houses and one can choose between a club room, a suite or even a whole chalet (house). The hotel is entirely decorated in the traditional Savoyard mountain style, still in a very chic and stylish manner.
There are 2 restaurants, one with haute french cuisine and the other one is a simple, typical cheese restaurant where one can have a traditional fondue or other cheese dishes.
A Spa is of course also not missing. So, if you are seeking a unique trip into the mountains, you should definitely consider this outstanding place. The same owners also own the Hotel Mont Blanc and the Lodge Park in Megeve, also both outstanding first class hotels.

Virgin Limited Edition combines several unique vacation resorts, all owned by Sir Richard Branson. Without having had a look at it, one can be sure that whatever Richard Branson owns is rather cool.
The resorts range from lodges in Africa to private paradise islands.
The experience on all properties should be of a unique kind but at the same time extremely relaxing. I would not mind finding that out in person. Until then I will just write and talk about it.

For several years now already this concept has been around. In Sweden they create every winter the Icehotel. The hotel is entirely made out of ice. One sleeps on fur and drinks a lot of vodka in the hotel Absolute Vodka Bar. The entrance of that bar is a huge Absolute Vodka bottle. One can even purchase glasses out of ice in the hotel, with a 4 day guarantee.
Guests are only allowed to stay a maximum of 2 nights, due to medical reasons.
But I would say it is definitely worth the experience.

The makers of Yo-Sushi have now come up with a new concept - the Yotel. The idea is that the rooms are rather small, stylish but still have all the comfort as a bigger room. They are all equiped with flat screen tvs and other convenient and at the same time stylish space savers. The concept wants Yotel to be a cheap alternative in major cities around the globe. Can you imagine staying in a decent place in downtown London for 70 pounds? Well, thats Yotel.

Lets see when the concept becomes reality.

Nota Bene is probably the most exclusive destination reviewer existing. One cannot buy there reviews, one has to become member and make at least a one year contract with them. Nikki Beach is a new kind of concept from Miami, Florida. They have beaches all around the world (St.Tropez, St.Barth, Miami, Marbella, etc) and its all about party, beautiful people, drinks and having fun.

Soupcon is a great new restaurant, which opened in Geneva in April 2004. It is situated in the heart of the old town. The food is light and going along this Euro-Asian fusion cuisine. Prices, especially for lunch are very good and one sits in a very stylish, modern italian designed ambiance. Go check it out and have a wonderful meal.
Tip: the menu changes all the time, so go to there website and have a look what they have at the moment.

Members only clubs are very popular already in cities like London. In Zuerich it is new. Here comes the first one - Haute. The name is fact. Haute is a Restaurant/Bar/Lounge overlooking the city of Zuerich. On the picture on the right one can see the glass box on top of the building - thats Haute.
It has become very popular in Zuerich, so if you know a member check it out, if not ...too bad for you.

The Faena Group has been launched by Mr. Faena himself, who made money with a clothing brand in South America. Now he owns the Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires, which has been entirely designed by Philippe Starck, the master himself. A wonderful hotel with a lot of style. So if you are in Buenos Aires, you should definitely drop by.
Faena also wants to turn the whole district around the hotel into a fashion, shopping, going out area. So, there is a lot to come from him.
And that guy is only 30.... I want that too when I am 30. We`ll see!!!!

Here our first Boutique Airline in Boutique * It * All. Yeah, there are also Boutique Airlines!!!!
Flybaboo is operating from Geneva, Switzerland and has some very interesting destinations such as St. Tropez, Ibiza, Florence, Valencia, Nice and Prague. The young company has had quite some success already. They are trying to give back the real feeling of travelling and not be part of the low cost trend, that we are experiencing at the moment in Europe. Damn, we wanto to fly and not ride the bus, people!!!
That means: there is food, there are nice flight attendants and there is a feeling of familiarity!!!!

Here is definitely one of the hot spots of Florence. The Continentale Hotel belongs to the Lungarno Hotel chain, which again is owned by the Ferragamo family. Thats right, Salvatore Ferragamo. Therefore you can imagine that these hotels have quite some style.
The Continentale is a modern hotel in the heart of Florence. The rooms are great, each equiped with a big bathroom and flatscreen tv.
The staff was really nice and the hotel was furnished with a lot of taste.
Example: The elevator was furnished as if it was a living room, with couch, etc.

this is the first post of this blog. Now a days one finds everything with a Boutique in front. Boutique Hotels, Boutique Bars/Lounges and now we even have Boutique Airlines. Unbelievable!
